Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup vinegar apple cider vinegar or balsamic vinegar works best
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes for a spicy kick

Equipment

  • Medium-sized mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon for mixing
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sealable plastic bag or shallow dish for marinating
  • Grill, oven, or skillet for cooking (depending on your method of choice)

Method

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, olive oil, vinegar, minced garlic, brown sugar (or honey), Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk the ingredients together until well combined.
  2. Marinate the Ingredients: Place your protein (such as chicken, beef, pork, or seafood) or vegetables into a sealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the ingredients, ensuring they are fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 2 hours for best results. For tougher cuts of meat, marinate overnight for deeper flavor.
  3. Cook Your Dish: Once the ingredients have marinated, remove them from the marinade and discard any excess. Cook the marinated ingredients according to your preferred method: grilling, roasting, or sautéing. For grilling, cook on medium-high heat, turning occasionally until the meat is fully cooked.
  4. Optional Glaze: You can reserve some of the marinade (before adding it to the raw ingredients) to use as a glaze or dipping sauce during the final stages of cooking.

Notes

  • Customization: Feel free to adjust the ingredients based on your preferences. Add extra honey for sweetness, or chili flakes for a spicier kick.
  • Storage: Leftover marinade can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Avoid using leftover marinade that has touched raw meat unless you cook it first.
  • Marinating Time: While 30 minutes is the minimum marinating time, allowing your ingredients to marinate for several hours or overnight will yield the best flavor.
