Baked Italian Sub

Ingredients
  

  • 2 sub rolls
  • 6 –8 slices salami
  • 4 –6 slices pepperoni
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices provolone or mozzarella
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1 small tomato thinly sliced
  • ½ small red onion thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup banana peppers or pickled capsicum optional
  • 1 –2 tbsp olive oil
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper

Equipment

  • Baking tray
  • Oven
  • Sharp knife
  • Small brush or spoon (for olive oil)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven: Heat to 200°C (fan).
  2. Prep rolls: Slice rolls lengthwise, keeping one side attached. Brush the inside with olive oil.
  3. Layer meats: Fill each roll with salami, pepperoni, and ham.
  4. Add cheese & veggies: Top with provolone, shredded mozzarella, tomato, onion, and banana peppers. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bake: Place on a baking tray and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is lightly toasted.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven, press the sandwich closed, slice, and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Add Italian dressing after baking for extra zing.
  • For extra crispiness, broil/grill the top for the last 1–2 minutes.
  • Add shredded lettuce after baking if you like a hot-and-cold texture.
  • Use spicy salami or drizzle with chilli oil for heat.
  • Swap the meats for turkey or roast beef to lighten it up.
