Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon flaxseeds
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon sunflower seeds
  • 2 cups of water
  • Optional: 1–2 slices of ginger or a pinch of cinnamon for extra flavor
  • Optional: Sweetener like stevia or honey to taste

Equipment

  • Teapot or saucepan
  • Strainer (optional)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Stirring spoon or whisk

Method

  1. Prepare the Seeds: Measure out the flaxseeds, chia seeds, and sunflower seeds. You can lightly crush the flax and sunflower seeds if preferred for better nutrient extraction.
  2. Boil the Water: In a teapot or saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer.
  3. Add the Seeds: Add the measured seeds into the simmering water and stir to combine. Allow the mixture to steep for about 10–15 minutes.
  4. Optional Flavoring: Add ginger or cinnamon if desired, allowing it to steep with the seeds for a more robust flavor.
  5. Strain and Serve: After steeping, strain the seeds (if you prefer a smooth tea) and pour the liquid into a cup. Add sweetener to taste, if desired.
  6. Enjoy: Sip the tea slowly, allowing the hydration and nutrients to support your post-surgery recovery.

Notes

  • Seed Variations: Feel free to experiment with other seeds, such as pumpkin or hemp seeds, to tailor the tea to your personal taste and nutritional preferences.
  • Gradual Introduction: If you are early in your post-surgery recovery, start with small portions to ensure your body can handle the fiber content.
  • Storage: The tea can be refrigerated for up to 2 days. Reheat it gently before serving.
  • Hydration: This tea is an excellent way to increase your daily fluid intake, an important aspect of post-bariatric recovery.
  • Fiber Content: Be mindful of the fiber content. While the seeds provide essential nutrients, they can be a bit much for those new to high-fiber foods, so introduce the tea gradually.
