Ingredients

  • For the Beef Enoki Rolls:
  • 500 g thinly sliced beef sirloin, rib-eye, or flank steak
  • 200 g enoki mushrooms trimmed and separated
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for frying
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • For the Dipping Sauce optional:
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger optional
  • A pinch of chili flakes optional

Equipment

  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Bowl for marinade
  • Toothpicks (optional, to secure rolls)
  • Tongs or spatula for flipping rolls
  • Small bowl for dipping sauce (optional)

Method

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper. Add the thinly sliced beef and let it marinate for 10-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare Enoki Mushrooms: Trim off the root ends of the enoki mushrooms and separate them into smaller clusters.
  3. Assemble the Rolls: Take a bundle of enoki mushrooms (4-5 stems) and place them at the end of a beef slice. Roll the beef around the mushrooms. Repeat for the remaining beef slices.
  4. Cook the Rolls: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the rolls for 2-3 minutes on each side until the beef is cooked through and browned. Add sesame oil and garlic for extra flavor and stir-fry for an additional minute.
  5. Prepare the Dipping Sauce (optional): Combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and ginger in a small bowl. Adjust with chili flakes if desired.
  6. Serve: Arrange the beef rolls on a serving platter and serve with the dipping sauce on the side.
