Ingredients

  • For the Marinade & Beef:
  • 1 lb 450g beef sirloin or tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional Garnishes & Sides:
  • 1/2 small red onion thinly sliced
  • Cherry tomatoes halved
  • Fresh cilantro or mint
  • Steamed jasmine rice or salad

Equipment

  • Large wok or heavy skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, minced garlic, sugar, and black pepper. Add beef cubes and toss well. Let marinate for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Heat the Pan: In a wok or heavy skillet, heat vegetable oil over high heat until hot and shimmering.
  3. Sear the Beef: Add beef in a single layer (in batches if needed). Shake the pan or stir rapidly to sear all sides. Cook for 2–3 minutes until browned but still tender. Remove and set aside.
  4. Final Toss & Serve: Return all beef to the pan. Add sliced onions and cherry tomatoes (if using) and cook for another 1–2 minutes. Serve hot over rice or salad, garnished with herbs.

Notes

Protein Swap: Ribeye, flank, or even tofu can be used in place of sirloin.
Healthier Option: Use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce for lower sodium.
Meal Prep Tip: Marinate the beef overnight for deeper flavor.
Don’t overcrowd the pan! Work in batches to ensure the beef sears, not steams.
For a more authentic bo luc lac recipe, use broken rice and a vinegar dipping sauce on the side.
