- Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently, then let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil (and optional garlic-infused olive oil, oregano, and basil). Stir to combine into a dough.
- Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour.
- Let the dough rise: Lightly oil a bowl and place the dough inside. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Stuff the crust: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll the dough out to your desired pizza size, leaving a 1-2 inch border around the edge. Place the shredded mozzarella along the border and fold the dough over to enclose the cheese, pressing down to seal the edges.
- Prepare the pizza: Once the crust is stuffed, shape the pizza and add your desired toppings.
- Bake the pizza: Place the pizza on a pizza stone or baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- Finish the crust: Brush the outer edge of the crust with olive oil or melted butter for an extra golden finish.
Notes
For a more flavorful stuffed crust, you can mix garlic powder or dried herbs into the cheese.
You can use any type of cheese for the stuffing, such as cheddar, mozzarella, or even a mix of different cheeses.
If you prefer a thinner crust, roll the dough thinner when shaping.
Serve with a side of marinara for dipping for an extra cheesy experience!
