Ingredients

  • For the Dough:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast about 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup warm milk about 110°F
  • ¼ cup melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Cinnamon Filling:
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk or as needed
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Small bowl for cinnamon-sugar filling
  • Whisk for the glaze

Method

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm milk with sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the milk mixture and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until bubbly. Add melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir to combine. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, until the dough begins to form. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  2. Prepare the Cinnamon Filling: In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Assemble the Buns: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 12x8-inch rectangle. Brush the dough with melted butter and evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice it into 12 equal pieces.
  4. Bake the Buns: Place the cinnamon rolls into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for 20–30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  5. Prepare the Glaze: While the buns are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Add more milk if needed to reach your desired glaze consistency.
  6. Glaze the Buns: Once the cinnamon rolls are done baking, drizzle the glaze over them while they are still warm. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Dough Rising Tip: If you want to make the dough ahead of time, you can let it rise overnight in the fridge for a slower fermentation process. Just let it sit out for 30 minutes before assembling the rolls.
  • Vegan Option: You can easily make this recipe vegan by substituting plant-based milk (like almond or oat milk) and using dairy-free butter.
  • Custom Toppings: Feel free to get creative with toppings—add chopped nuts, raisins, or even chocolate chips for an extra indulgent twist!
