- Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and instant coffee granules.
- Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, mix buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Make the batter: Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Prepare the topping: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, chopped nuts, and flour. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until crumbly.
- Assemble and bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan and evenly sprinkle the topping over the batter. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and serve: Allow the cake to cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy as is or with whipped cream or ice cream.

Use almond or oat milk for dairy-free.
Whole wheat flour works but changes texture.
