Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 medium yellow onions sliced
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix or homemade seasoning
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns for serving

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Burger buns
  • Serving plates

Method

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon until browned (5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  2. Caramelize the Onions: Add sliced onions to the same skillet and cook over medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and tender.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked beef back to the skillet with the caramelized onions. Stir in French onion soup mix, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Assemble the Sandwiches: Toast the buns if desired. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun and top with the other half.
  5. Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add melted cheese (Swiss, provolone, or cheddar) on top of the beef mixture.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, add sliced jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce.
  • You can store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator, or freeze the filling for up to 3 months. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave before serving.
