Ingredients

  • 1 rack of baby back ribs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup Tony Roma’s barbecue sauce or your preferred BBQ sauce

Equipment

  • Grill (or oven, if you prefer)
  • Basting brush
  • Tongs
  • Meat thermometer (optional)
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Prepare the Ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs to ensure they cook evenly and absorb the flavors better.
  2. Season the Ribs: Drizzle olive oil over the ribs and rub the seasoning mix (brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, and salt) generously over both sides of the ribs.
  3. Grill the Ribs: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Place the seasoned ribs on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they develop a nice brown color.
  4. Add the Sauce: During the last 5 minutes of grilling, brush the ribs generously with your chosen barbecue sauce, allowing it to caramelize slightly for a sticky, delicious finish.
  5. Serve: Once the ribs are fully cooked and the sauce is nicely glazed, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. Slice the ribs into individual portions and serve with extra sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Grill Temperature: Make sure to grill the ribs over medium-high heat to get that perfect balance of crispy outside and tender inside.
  • Alternative Cooking Method: If you don’t have a grill, you can also bake the ribs at 300°F (150°C) for 2-2.5 hours, basting with sauce in the last 30 minutes.
  • Leftovers: Leftover ribs can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat gently to preserve the texture.
